Today we have a lovely simple alphabet perfectly designed for that little monster in your life. Monster Alphabet by Cross Stitch Wonders.
From the Designer
Each Monster Alphabet Letter was adapted for cross stitch from licensed artwork by Clipartopolis.
Why this chart?
I love the versatility of alphabet designs; especially those where each letter is of matching size so I can make name plates or signs. At around 80 stitchers high, these letters are the perfect size on standard fabrics for monograms or words.
As at least one of my nephews is at the stage of reading Captain Underpants and The Day my Bum went Psycho so I think this monster alphabet is perfect to stitch gifts for them. I could make them name plates for their rooms, stitch them an afghan or simply add a monogram for their library bags.
I also like that these designs are available for machine stitching for those who have a capable sewing machine.
The alphabet is stitched in blocks of bright, bold DMC colours perfect for the beginner stitcher and their monsters.
Many of the Cross Stitch Wonders designs are available as printed leaflets, digital downloads and in a variety of machine cross stitch formats.
You can purchase the leaflets individually, (much more cost effective if you are stitching a name plate for a Ben) or you can buy the alphabet if you have two nephews named Christopher and Alexander.
Each digital letter chart consists of the front cover and one page. The front cover has a computer mock-up of the final design and licensing details. The second page has the chart, floss list/symbol key and some simple stitching instructions.
The chart is printed very large, with diverse symbols for the colours; a very easy design to stitch. The backstitching is presented in a dark back line, easily visible against the 10 x 10 stitch grid.
As the colours on each letter are bright bold blocks of DMC, they can be easily personalised to match the recipients favourite colours or the decor of their room. Monsters are supposed to be vivid with clashing colours so you can’t go wrong, no matter which colours you choose.
There is no recommended fabric for the Alphabet Monster Letter charts. You can stitch these on the versatile white fabric, or a pastel hand dyed to calm down some of the vividness or you can stitch on a bright bold clashing colour.
As these designs are only whole cross stitch with some backstitching, they can be stitched on Aida or evenweave or any fabric you like. They would be perfect to stitch via waste canvas to clothing.
To stitch the charts exactly as designed, you will need:
various skeins of DMC floss
Your favourite fabric (stitch count 83 x 83 at most). This design can be stitched over 2 or over 1.
For 14ct Aida or 28ct evenweave (with 3″ border allowance) fabric size for a single monogrammed letter is 12” x 12” or 30 x 30cm or a fat eighth (13 x 18″).
On 14ct Aida or 28ct evenweave each letter is at largest 6″ x 6″ or 15 x 15cm. So a four letter name like Cabe (with 1″ between letters and a 3″ border allowance) would be 36″ x 12″.

Chromatic Alchemy “The monster alphabet is so much fun! It is so colourful it is quite difficult to pick a fabric that will work for all the letters, I do think however that a skull ice dye fits this piece perfectly. Or there is Nuriels Forest for a more subtle colourway.”
Crafty Kitten ” Very cute, Moondust or Moon Blush would be my first choices with moonlit water and midnight skies as other possibilities”
Sparklies “Monster Alphabet – Given the range of colours used in the designs I think a pale blue background would be best. Either Baby Blue or Summer Skies would suit nicely.”
