Today we have a Blue Monday …. two shades of blue on Egoiste, a gorgeous abstract design from Alessandra Adelaide Needleworks (AAN).
What is it?
Egoiste is a fantasy maṇḍala design by Alessandra Adelaide Needleworks (AAN).
Why this chart?
As can be assumed from the cover page, I bought this chart when it came out in 2007 as a PDF download. It was the first Alessandra Adelaide Needleworks (AAN) chart I ever purchased.
I loved the shades of blue and was ever so intrigued about what that background fabric was! Unfortunately after I bought the chart I found out that it was stitched on white linen and that intriguing background was caused by the compression of a large image to a small one.
However, these two DMC colours are gorgeous on white and this design did start my life-long love of AAN designs; I have many in my stash and many more in my wishlist.
This is a simple design of whole cross stitch in two colours on a white background. This design is suitable for beginner to advanced stitchers alike. It is a very versatile design; so easy to change floss colours or fabrics to suit your taste or decor.
Some time after I bought this design, Alessandra Dade closed the AAN e-shop due to piracy and made all of her charts available as printed charts only. She has recently started selling designs as PDF downloads again in her Express Charts section, but it has very few designs so far.
My Egoiste chart pack is six pages long; A cover page, including the small image and link to the website that was. Her current website is at: http://www.alessandra-adelaide.eu/
The second page listing the fabric used in the design and the joint floss list and symbol key/legend. This design is charted for two DMC colours on white fabric; you can easily change these to whatever colours suit your fancy.
In a printed chart, this information should ideally be placed on the back page to help those who browse in bricks and mortar shops. The website does include this information for those of us who buy online.
The four pages of the chart. The two symbols are easy to find and differentiate: o and *. Even when printed small the asterisk fills in more of the square and so appears darker that open circle.
Speaking of which, the symbols are very small on this chart, you will probably need to make an enlarged copy to mark off your progress.
My PDF version of the chart does not include any overlap rows. If the printed chart is the same you may need to tape your pages together when crossing the page boundaries. The chart does include 10 row markers, so you could count off the rows to help keep you place.
To stitch the charts exactly as designed, you will need:
4 skeins DMC 3809 Very Dark Turquoise
3 skeins DMC 794 Light Cornflower Blue
28 count White Cashel linen (stitch count 233 x 244). This design can be stitched over 2 or over 1.
For 28ct evenweave or linen (with 3″ border allowance) fabric size is: 23” x 24” or 58 x 60cm or a fat half (27 x 36″).
Approximate cost for Project
Approximate cost to stitch this design using the recommended materials (prices are in $US, at recommended retail and do not include postage):
Floss: $ 3.15
Total: $44.15 ($63.80AUD or $69.90CAD or €55.40 or £15.77)

Chromatic Alchemy “I have chosen Candy Floss for Egoiste. The pretty blues really pop on this fabric and I feel that the cloud-like pattern gives the piece an extra level of depth.”
Crafty Kitten “I like this one with it’s original colour scheme, so I think I’d stitch it on moondust, the greys would compliment the stitched shadow.
Or if you wanted to play, Twilight shadows as the top thread and moonlight as the bottom one, again on moondust.
I do stock AAN charts, but I don’t have this one in stock currently (Wichelt order is going in on the 15th, so I can order one for anyone if they would like one and want to contact me).”
Sparklies “This design already uses colours I love, so rather than change them I decided to stick with coordinating colours for the fabric, and I think either BST or Snowy Skies would suit very well.”

Fiberlicious “Egoiste is such a beautiful and elegant design by AAN. I’d suggest using 2 contrast colors to enhance the beauty of it. The base color would be something very light and subtle such as Hydrangea or Spring blossoms.
The center piece will be Brumble berry.
Under the Sea Fabrics have a range of hand dyed and hand painted fabrics to suit your needs.
What combination of fabric and floss colours would you stitch this design with?
