Love Creates Magic by Patty Hurwitz is a spot of happiness for a Monday morning.
By the Designer
Love is a positive force with unlimited powers! Let us all show it by being kind to everyone we meet.
Why this chart?
I bought this chart in 2005, when it was first released. I was in love at the time (or certainly in lust with my boyfriend at the time), I tend to get sappy when in love, so many of the designs that make you go “dawwwww” have been bought while I was in that state.
I could easily see this design as a wedding or engagement gift. However love is a much broader concept than just your significant other. We love our parents, children, other family members, friends, pets. We even pour our love into our work and our stitching. What type of love do you think when you see this design?
I love Patty’s designs and will always support her work. She uses minimal colours and includes the fabric as an element of the design. Not for her a design on beige or white!
Love Creates Magic is a relatively straight forward design of only two floss colours and two types of buttons. This small design also only uses whole cross stitch, so I recommend it for any level of stitcher who wants to increase the levels of happiness in the world.
All the Moonflower Designs charts are only available as printed charts; some of the Small Scapes series are available as kits.
The Loves Creates Magic chart is printed double-sided on a single US Letter (similar to A4) cardstock. One side is printed in colour ad includes the front and back covers, the other side is printed in black on white and has the chart and floss key or legend.
As this is a small design, the chart is printed quite large on the single US Letter page. The chart uses two very different symbols for the differing colours. This is a chart that is very easy to use.
However cardstock is folded right across the chart. Symbols printed on the fold can rub off or flake off over time.
There is no placement marks for the buttons. The stitcher is free to add the stars wherever they choose. Personally I would prefer if the placement used on the model was included for those stitchers who do not have the confidence for freehand placement.
The back cover lists the fabric the design is model stitched on and the details of the buttons. Unfortunately you have to open the pack to see what floss is needed to stitch this work of art. There is no stitch count included anywhere or any sign of what size fabric to use. The website also does not include this information.
To stitch the charts exactly as designed, you will need:
1 skein Classic Colorworks Cappuccino
1 skein Classic Colorworks Snips and Snails
1 Just Another Button Co #3363 Pastel Rainbow Heart button
5 Just Another Button Co #3313S Small White Stars buttons
32 count Picture This Plus Mystic Belfast Linen (stitch count 114 x 68). This design can be stitched over 2 or over 1.
For 16ct Aida or 32ct evenweave / linen (with 3″ border allowance) fabric size is: 13” x 10½” or 34 x 26cm or a fat eighth (13 x 18″).
For 14ct Aida or 28ct evenweave (with 3″ border allowance) fabric size is: 14” x 11” or 36 x 28cm or a fat eighth (13x 18″).
